Shopmobility appeal boosted by store donation

A local convenience store has helped to jump start donations towards providing new Shopmobility scooters in Bognor Regis.

Southern Co-op’s Hawthorn Road retail store has made a £700 donation to the Bognor Regis Lions Club which has enabled them to buy a new scooter as part of their latest fundraising project.

The Lions Club’s latest fundraising project is to provide more mobility scooters in the area which will be hired out via Bognor Shopmobility.

The charity, Bognor Shopmobility, is a specialist in providing aids to assist anyone in need of help getting around.

Richard Johns, of Bognor Lions Club, said: “We recently learnt that the number of scooters available in the area has reduced from 40 to 28 which could mean the volunteers aren’t able to keep up with demand in the summer.

Around 700 people use the Shopmobility facilities on short term lets and it really helps give people back their independence and to manage everyday life.

It is unthinkable to imagine people unable to get out and about just because there aren’t enough scooters available so we hope this addition will be the start of many more.”

Bognor Shopmobility has a range of mobility equipment available for hire.

Debi Budd, Store Manager at the Bognor branch, said: “We regularly see customers and residents using these scooters so we hope that our donation can help this continue.

The Lions Club is a great asset to our community so it is wonderful to be able to support them in such a worthwhile way.”

To make a donation, Bognor Regis Lions Clubs has asked if cheques could be sent to Lion Richard Johns, 6 The Ridings, Bognor Regis, West Sussex PO21 4HP.
