2016
Several members of the
Bognor Regis Lions Club and their partners have recently returned
from visiting their twin Lions club in Marburg, Germany. The
twinning started some 40 years ago and members from the two clubs
visit every other year. This year, it was the turn of Bognor to visit
the Marburg club. On arrival at Marburg Golf Club, we were welcomed
and enjoyed the first of many excellent meals with our hosts. It was
the occasion of the European Cup semi-final between Germany and
France and being a warm Summer evening, we watched the game on an
outside television. Although we cheered for our hosts, we then had to
commiserate with them as France beat Germany. It was however a very
good game and most of us though it was a much better match than the
final on Sunday.
Over the years we have
been twinning, some very good friendships have been made and most of
us are hosted by our friends in their homes. Likewise, we will be
hosting our Marburg friends when they visit us next year.
But back to our recent
trip. On day 2, a coach load of members from the two clubs left
Marburg at 8.00 am and we spent the day visiting some Roman
fortifications near Frankfurt and also an exhibition of artifacts
from ancient Greece. It was a most interesting day.
The following day was a
free day with our hosts but in the evening, one of the Marburg Li
ons
invited us to a barbeque at his house. Suffice to say, it was a late
night.
On day 3, we met at a
country Restaurant some miles from Marburg – another excellent
lunch – and in the evening, it was time to say farewell to our
friends. The gathering was at a local Restaurant and another first
class barbeque was enjoyed.
Britain may have voted
to leave the E.U but Bognor Lions’ link with Marburg Lions is
stronger than ever.

The Marburg Lions joined us again in July 2015
We met up at The Bognor Regis Golf Club for our Meet and Greet. We had a beautiful meal together and planned to meet up very early the next day.
Friday a trip to The Isle of Wight to spend an historical day at Osborne House, holiday home of Queen Victoria and Princ Albert. It was a very very wet day but inside this glorious housethe weather did not matter. we all thoroughly enjoyed this. We stayed for a lovely salmon lunch and then moved on to tour the village of Godshill. This was a very damp visit and sorry to say that Godshill is not the best place to be when it is raining. Never mind - back home to Bognor. It is early 8.00 and we have all decided to have a Spanish tapas evening at The Sen in Bognor Regi. Too much food and I have to say too much vino but what else could we do? A great night out and lots of laughter Guten Arbent.
Saturday Some went to Arundel Castle to watch the jousting matches and others went to Brooklands, the old racing curcuit in Surrey. A long day made even longer - we all went to Lion Lindas house for a BBQ

The Marburg Lions visited
us in July 2013
What a wonderful time we had with our visitors.
Thursday - Our meet and greet was
held at Bognor Regis Golf Club with a great meal and lots of
fun, saying hello again to our friends from Germany.
 |
Friday - A coach trip out to Kew Gardens where some
of us walked, some of us took he train, but we all enjoyed
a brilliant lunch in the 'Orangy'. After a tiring day
we came home to our hosts houses.
Saturday - out and about with
our host and friends. Some even made it to Goodwood Festival
of Speed,
Sunday - a lazy day for some,
others may have been a little bit more energetic. In the
evening we said our goodbyes at the Inglenook, a super
evening in the fresh air. We look forward to going over
to Marburg next summer.
