There are many ways in which the
Lions work with young people.

only a winner in Bognor Regis but went on to

Requests received regularly
include applications for individual financial
help to take part in overseas explorations or
charitable ventures. In the last year Bognor
Lions have assisted with the cost of over
fifteen individual young people who have
helped on projects varying from Tall Ship
races to setting up Schools and Hospitals in
the jungles of the third world.
Before giving a grant the
validity of each application is checked. The
Applicant will be expected to show that they
are doing something towards raising cash for
themselves and that the project is being run
by an accredited organisation.
Bognor Lions also have a good
working relationship with local youth groups.
Including Scouts, Guides, Youth Clubs and
local Youth Charities.
This year Bognor Lions funded a
Basic Food Hygiene course, which was
administered by a local outreach charity,
which targeted young people with educational
or social needs and allowed them to take the
course free of charge. For most this could be
the first creditable achievement they have
received. Also it is a valid qualification
when looking for work in the food industry.
Another Bognor Lions project was
to pay for the printing of small information
cards containing helpful contacts for young
people with regard to problems concerning
Health, Drugs and Housing. (These were given
out by qualified Youth Outreach Workers.)
Within the district there is the
opportunity for young people to enter
competitions ranging from Football to
Designing a Peace Poster.
Every October we hold a
Swimathon, which attracts between 20 and 25
youth teams, who swim to raise money for their
own clubs and charities, as well as the Lions
Club. In 2003 this raised over £5000 for local
Schools and Clubs. Every penny collected goes
to the causes for which it is raised. No
administration or running costs are taken out.
